A Willits man named Bryan Petersen filmed a movie in Willits & Ukiah called “Wrecker 2022” about an emotionally scarred man who became disappointed in the US justice system & had turned into a vigilante. According to an article published in the Ukiah Daily Journal, ‘Mendocino Film Festival’ rejected his film.
Supporting Local Business
In Mendocino County there is not many movies filmed, as the country is rural & far from the city. Nonetheless, most people in Mendocino County aspire to make the area as lively & productive as possible with local enterprise. Organizations like Mendocino Film Festival seem to have different goals for the area. Despite the fact local man Bryan Petersen had filmed an outstanding local movie with local actors & a long production effort, Mendocino Film Festival refused to feature his movie.
The Story
Wrecker 2022 is a story about a man named John Knox who had lost his family & subsequently his wife due to his struggling to cope with the loss of his family. Shortly after losing his wife, John Knox essentially gave up all hope & tried to focus all of his energy on work to avoid going crazy.
During the time John Knox was trying to cope, his wife had been kidnapped by a criminal ringleader who had been peddling a mysterious new drug in order to take over the area. The crime ring called themselves ‘The Trinitarians’.
The ‘Trinitarians’ knew John Knox & his story & viewed his traumatic experience as making him an ideal candidate to serve their crime ring. They targeted him in order to make him a servant of theirs; however John was fed up with people giving him orders or advice & fought back in the most brutal way in order to protect himself & his community from their malicious agenda.
The movie itself has a great introduction & a great captivating story. The people in the movie probably don’t have much acting experience and they definitely aren’t famous; however the movie is incredibly well made & deserves to be seen by the community of Mendocino County.
‘Mendocino Film Festival’
Instead of helping Bryan Petersen find an audience for this movie that he & the community had put so much effort into, the Mendocino Film Festival refused to feature the movie. A film festival all the way in Seattle accepted it, but ultimately Bryan Petersen had to pursue his own distribution channels for his film to be seen. The movie can be seen on YouTube today.
It is a shame organizations like Mendocino Film Festival put their own political agendas before the interests of the community. People want to see movies made by local residents & support them, just like they want to support other local businesses. Simply because the movie features a character that didn’t offer total compliance with law enforcement doesn’t mean the movie deserves to be buried & hidden from public view.
We applaud Bryan Petersen for the effort he put into filming this movie. We think it’s a shame that an organization that calls itself ‘Mendocino Film Festival’ would reject such a well made movie. Share this article today & help Bryan find an audience for his film.
